On November 29, 1944, the first meeting of the national reading association, “Tane Georgievski” was held. Its aim was to meet the desire and needs of the citizens for a library, in a city where a reading room had already existed nearly two decades earlier. Officially, the initial work of the library began October 20, 1945 with a collection of about 1,300 books donated by citizens of Kumanovo.
Today the library has a collection of 195,946 units. The library initially offered books and newspapers to patrons, and today it is an institution that collects, professionally processes, stores, investigates, and provides for use of a diverse amount library material (books, magazines, newspapers, manuscripts, many electronic editions). In recent years, the library has completed several development projects, including an information reading room, a reading room for adults, a reading room for younger ages, and the addition of a number of books.
With numerous programs and workshops taking place at the library, it is a center for knowledge and research, the most reliable source of information and a place for the intellectual improvement and inspiration of citizens of Kumanovo.
